BRIEF HISTORY

The increasing numbers of beggars, street children, mentally challenged and abandoned older persons proliferating in the streets caught the attention of Rev. Fr. Dennis S. Prisco as early as year 2001. He approached the Bishop of the Diocese of Butuan, the
Most Rev. Juan De Dios M. Pueblos, D.D.
and recommended the creation of a Diocesan Special Apostolate. Fr. Dennis was appointed as the Spiritual/Executive Director and he named this apostolate “POR CRISTO” which meant “For Christ”.
POR CRISTO was allowed to occupy set of offices at the annex building of Agusan Del Norte Provincial Hospital. It started by distributing daily food assistance (solicited from the local market) to indigent patient watchers at the Hospital. Later, there were beggars, street children and abandoned older persons begging for food and medical assistance. The sad death stories of some abandoned older persons prompted the creation of Por Cristo Home for the Abandoned Elderly in 2002 in Brgy. Abilan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
